Welcome to the website of Katipunan, Filipino American Association of Maryland!
Katipunan was started and still exists because we care deeply about our Filipino
heritage. In 1969, it was created to satisfy the thirst for Filipino culture,
values and family get-togethers in the country that they adopted. The
demographics have also changed from those few immigrants with their children.
Today, those children have their own children -- the third generation
Filipino-Americans; and now we also have the new "bayani" or heroes of the
Philippines -- the overseas foreign workers with us. And to fit better into our
means of today and the ever-changing community to which we belong, we have been
going back to the "old" family and community values but we are constantly adding
a 'modern" twist to it. The demographics may have changed, but the mission still
stays the same.
Through the years, Katipunan has been helping and assisting others locally, and
giving back to our countrymen in the Philippines; and as a fitting move, Katipunan
was recently awarded its 501(c)3 designation. Together, help us promote a united
and strong Filipino-American citizenry in Maryland and be counted as a community
on the move.
We hope to see you and your family at some of the events that we have planned for
you. The whole Katipunan family hopes you will find a home with us, where every
Filipino and their family and friends belong!
Thank you for visiting us, please visit again and see what we are doing to
make you proud of your Filipino heritage and the Filipino ties that bind us
together. Salute the past, commit to the present and pledge to our future!
Sincerely,
Belle Santos-Owens
